When Protecting Your Peace Feels Like a Full-Time Job

If I'm being honest, last week was hard.

Not the kind of hard that everyone can see from the outside.

The kind of hard that happens quietly.

The kind that makes you smile when people ask how you're doing, while internally you're carrying far more than you want anyone to know.

I've always tried to be a positive person. I genuinely believe in gratitude, faith, self-care, and finding joy in life's simple moments. But there are weeks when staying in that mindset feels less like a choice and more like a battle.

Last week was one of those weeks.

I've been dealing with some health setbacks that have challenged me physically and mentally. When your body isn't cooperating, it can affect everything. Your energy. Your confidence. Your motivation. Even your ability to stay hopeful.

There were moments when I felt frustrated.

Moments when I felt discouraged.

Moments when I wondered why progress sometimes feels like two steps forward and three steps back.

And if you've ever walked through your own health struggles, grief, disappointment, anxiety, or unexpected challenges, you probably know exactly what I mean.

The Parts We Don't Always Share

Social media has a way of showing the highlights.

The victories.

The celebrations.

The finished products.

The family photos.

The business milestones.

What it rarely shows are the moments when you're lying awake at night worrying.

The doctor's appointments.

The setbacks.

The tears.

The uncertainty.

The days when you're simply trying to keep your head above water.

I think sometimes people look at business owners, leaders, or even people who seem strong on the outside and assume they don't struggle.

The truth is, we all do.

I do.

There are days when self-doubt creeps in.

Days when anxiety gets louder than gratitude.

Days when I have to work hard to protect my peace.

Protecting Your Joy When Life Gets Heavy

One thing I've learned is that protecting your joy doesn't mean pretending everything is okay.

It doesn't mean forcing positivity.

It doesn't mean ignoring the hard things.

Real joy isn't denial.

Real joy is choosing hope even when circumstances are difficult.

It's allowing yourself to acknowledge the darkness without letting it take up permanent residence.

There is a difference between experiencing hardship and becoming consumed by it.

That's easier said than done, of course.

Because when life keeps handing you roadblocks, disappointment can start to feel familiar.

And that's when protecting your peace becomes intentional work.

Sometimes protecting your peace means turning off the noise.

Sometimes it means saying no.

Sometimes it means asking for help (which I am terrible at).

Sometimes it means resting without guilt.

And sometimes it means simply making it through the day.

Learning to Give Myself Grace

One of my biggest struggles has always been giving grace to everyone except myself.

I can encourage others.

I can remind people to rest.

I can tell them they're doing the best they can.

But applying that same compassion to myself? That's still a work in progress.

Last week reminded me that healing isn't linear.

Growth isn't linear.

Life certainly isn't linear.

There will be weeks when you feel strong and capable.

There will be weeks when you're barely holding it together.

Neither season defines you.

Both are part of the journey.

Why I'm Sharing This

I'm sharing this because I never want My Body Therapy to feel like a brand built on perfection.

It isn't.

It's built on real life.

It's built on the belief that self-care matters most when life feels messy.

It's built on the understanding that wellness isn't about never struggling.

It's about continuing to care for yourself while you do.

The truth is, I experience challenges and darkness just like everyone else.

I have difficult days.

I have fears.

I have moments when I feel overwhelmed.

I have weeks where protecting my peace feels like a full-time job.

But I also know that even in those moments, there is still beauty to be found.

There is still gratitude.

There is still hope.

And there is still the opportunity to begin again.

A Reminder for Anyone Who Needs It

If you're walking through a difficult season right now, please know you're not alone.

If you're tired, discouraged, anxious, overwhelmed, or struggling to stay positive, you're not failing.

You're human.

Give yourself permission to rest.

Give yourself permission to feel.

Give yourself permission to start over as many times as necessary.

Most importantly, don't measure your strength by how well you hide your struggles.

Strength is often found in continuing to move forward despite them.

As I step into a new week, that's exactly what I'm choosing to do.

Not perfectly.

Not fearlessly.

Just faithfully.

One day at a time.

My body is a temple. I will honor it with self-care.

Especially on the hard days.

With gratitude,

Kendra Jackson
